Eugene "Newt" Ayers

Eugene “Newt” Ayers, a life-long resident of Baltimore, MD passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 15, 2024. He preceded in death by his father, Robert Woodson; mother, Jeanette Morton; sister Geraldine Morton; spouse Beverly “Jean” Holland and sons Eugene Carlton Ayers and Stephen Ayers. Eugene was born in Buckingham County, Virginia on August 22, 1945, to Robert Woodson and Jeanette Ayers. He came to Baltimore City at the young age of 2. He received his education from Baltimore City Public School System. Early in his life, he worked for Department of Public Works in Baltimore City. Up until his death he was a long-time employee of 25 years at Jai Medical Center. He prided himself on having a strong work ethic. Newt was a man of many talents. He was a self-taught welder and home improvement guru. Known by most as Newt or Mr. Ayers. He had a passion for sports, specifically football which he played semi-pro for the Baltimore Rams, softball and flag football for the Chargers AC and flag football for Packhouse. He coached at area recreation centers and organizations. Mr. Newt was considered by most a father figure, mentor, and friend. He had the heart of a giant and the wisdom of Solomon. He was often quiet, but when he spoke it was always with love, encouragement, and support. He was outgoing, ridiculously hilarious, and protective of his family. He enjoyed seeing or talking with family and friends on the phone, watching investigative shows and experimenting with his cooking. His favorite song was Penny Lover by Lionel Richie and favorite rapper was Kool Moe Dee. What brought him the greatest joy was his children, grand and great-grandchildren. Newt is survived by his children, Nathan E. Ayers, Sr. and Ya’el Bat-David; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Ayers, his son-in law, Mika’el Ben-David; his grandchildren, Tameka Alford, Tanesha Alford, Nathan Ayers, Jr., Jamal Ayers, Sr., Devonte Ayers, BenYamin Ben-David and ZaCharee Bat-David; his great-grandchildren, Jameel McCormick, Tori Blue, DeMiyah Ayers, Phillip Dixon IV, Jamal Ayers Jr., Phaith Ayers; and Teigan Alford; his sister Gloria Pollard, his brother James Edward Scott, his sisters-in-laws Barbara Jones and Faye Askew; his brother-in-law Cornelius Askew, and a host of nieces, nephews, close friends and co-workers.
